Happy Holidays to all! :celebrate Sorry for the long post.

I also would like to add to Phendric's comments above and put the question whether this update is real or not to rest. It seems that we got a green light to talk about it and I want to assure you that it is very real and it is definitely a huge improvement from the initial release. Let me state from the beginning that anyone who wants to demand anything or call me a liar, a troll, etc. – please do not waste your time. I could careless about these comments and this post is intended only to people who believe and are genuinely interested in this update and would like some additional info. Any flaming or rude comments will be ignored so please don’t bother – unless this is the only way how you bump your posts count.

In addition, please do not PM or post here requesting the file because as much as I would really really love to do that, it would not be the right thing to do at this point without causing some potential issues to the original poster or this great community. When Juraj is ready to post it out in the open he will do it. I hope you can understand that.

Now on to the good stuff! :approve: The screenshots showing the new ROM info posted in this thread previously where not doctored as someone suggested. They came from my Axim X50v after I ran the update. You can take my word for it, or you can continue in disbelief – your choice. As you probably noticed, a few other members here where also beta-testing this update and I am sure they will post their comments/impressions as well shortly. I personally have been running the new ROM for the last few days and so far I am VERY happy with the new update and it is definitely a keeper for me. Everyone is using their PDA differently so I am sure what seems great for me may still not satisfy other users, so keep that in mind. I am sure there will be people who will say that Dell took all this time and still did not resolve everything. On the other hand, I think the majority of the people will share the same feeling that all of the beta testers shared that this update was well worth the wait. The good thing is that you still have a choice of either running 2003SE or WM2005 on your X50v! I keep saying X50v because I am not sure that this update is also for the X50 model, since I don’t have one – I did not test if it works. The ROM name clearly states X50v so I suspect this is only for the VGA model; unless there is another ROM that I did not receive.

The good:
  • Battery drainage problem is solved.
  • Battery heating problem is solved.
  • Missing CF problem is solved.
  • General slowness problem is solved. My Ax seems to be as snappy as when I was running 2003SE!
  • Compaction problem seems not to affect the performance dramatically any longer.
The bad:
  • Bluetooth stack is still crippled so updating to Broadcom drivers is still recommended. So far this is the only negative thing I found; and frankly since Broadcom drivers work great this is not an issue.

As I mentioned, the way I use my PDA may be different so I am sure other people will have other feedback. The main thing that this update is definitely a keeper for me and I have no need to go back to 2003SE any longer.

My setup:
  • Axim X50v, hardware revision A08
  • ActiveSync 4.5.0 (build 5059 BETA)
  • All programs installed into main memory after upgrade except GPS software and maps.
  • All media files (music, pictures, movies, etc.) copied to storage cards.

I will be happy and try to answer any additional questions you may have. Juraj has been honest from the beginning and there is still a Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/etc. present waiting for everyone. It is just a little bit late so please have some more patience.

:attn:
Keep in mind that if/when this update is released here, it is still NOT officially released or approved by Dell yet, so anything you do with it is completely up to you and at your own risk. Bottom line – yes it can brick your Axim and no you can’t call Dell demanding a replacement.
:attn:

Cheers and have a great New Year!! Here are some screenshots for your enjoinment:
