There is a side button for starting the in-built voice notes app.

I thought there was a button on the side of the unit that started the voice recorder-- I might have to use that as the WiFi is a bit undependable in my classroom and is available in few other places around our little town. The button idea is a good reminder, too. I did that with my Palm: mapping one of the buttons to ShadowPlan and another to DayNotz.
