I can only imagine the frustration you're experiencing having been there myself with other Windows components.... I'm really, really sorry if you've already tried what I'm about to suggest (please don't bash your head against the wall!) but this is the way I troubleshoot most things to do with Windows....

1) Delete any instance of the Axim in your network properties (especially any multiple instances)

2) Uninstall Activesync

3) Download the latest 'stable' version of activesync from MS (4.2 I believe) and install it

From memory, I don't think there were any specific drivers to run the Axim (either on the disc accompanying the device or otherwise) however it's possible that XP already had the required drivers installed. What did Dell tech support say about the driver issue?

Try re-installing the Axim with as 'clean a slate' as possible and follow the installation instructions that came with you axim 'to the letter'. i.e., do everything in the exact order as stated. Another thing I usually do with Windows problem is turn to Dr Google. Write down the exact error message(s) you're getting in google and search those terms encased in inverted commas (looks for an exact match in the google results). in order to keep the google results on-topic, throw in x51v in the search box at the end of the error message encased in inverted commas but don't put x51v in the inverted commas. This will look for pages that have your exact error message plus x51v somewhere on the page. Other things to try are using WM5, Axim, etc after your error messages.

I sincerely hope this helps jakg. I share your pain - believe me.

Microsoft and their Activesync deserve a huge kick in the butt
