KOTOR plays somewhat like a 3D version of Baldur's Gate. All attacks, saves, and other factors are determined by "to hit" rolls. The game consists of party based combat, quests, and lengthy discussions. You finally get to be a jedi that does more than just hack up enemies with a lightsaber. This includes resolving disputes and even acting a lawyer at one point or another. Each decision you make determines your alignment (light side, dark side, or anything in the middle). There are also mini-games such as swoop bike racing (the grandfather of pod racing), turret gunning, card games, and even gladiatorial combat. KOTOR was developed by Bioware so that should give you an idea of what to expect here. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it has a great storyline worthy of the Star Wars name (prequels not withstanding).
