Rush is one of the classic progressive rock bands. They have been with the same lineup since 1974 and they continue to make great, rocking, lyrically thoughtful and musically challenging music. Neil Peart is often considered one of the greatest rock drummers ever, as is Geddy Lee on the bass. Their latest albums was last years "Vapor Trails".

Queensryche is another of the pioneering progressive rock/metal bands that managed to survive the shift from metal of the 80's to grunge in the 90's without ever really losing their identity. Not as complex as Rush, but still very tight, with some very political albums (the masterpiece "Operation Mindcrime" and many songs on "Empire") to great introspection. They just released a new album and I think it has more direction and cohesiveness about it than many of their recent works. Very solid stuff.

Opeth is a new find for me. They are a Swedish progressive metal band. Their music varies from beautiful acoustic work to incredible heavy, crushing rifs with insane growling vocals, and everything in between. Thick, complex and long songs may seem intimidating (one of their album's smallest song is over 10 minutes) but with the diversity in texture, tone, time signature, their stuff is really impressive. And, though sometimes considered a death metal band, their lyrical content, while bleak at times, never delves into profane, important for me.
Yours and most of everyones else :D
