AVC is by CoreCodec, very good - it's only 5-10% slower than the one used in CorePlayer now. And the AAC is the commonly used version from rarewaves. I have bought CorePlayer, but I still don't use it and watch movies on my good ol' TCPMP. H264+AAC_HE encoded movies, mind you :)
The best way to convert your DVDs into H264 encodes optimized for your PDA is to use "StaxRip" and when setting the resolution, set it to "anamorphic" and select the first value to about 320-380 pixels and set the quality to 50% and the profile to HQ-INSANE. Image Quality with these settings is awesome on my Axim X50v. DivX and XviD were replaced by this new awesome codec. Go and try it out!

Have you tried using a higher resolution, i.e. 640 x 272? Is this playable on 624MHz?
