I agree with the first part of your reply; it may not always be necessary! Nonetheless, the combined processes in the Activesync application (the two that I can find anyway (WCESMgr & wcescomm)) consume less than 9,000k of memory whilst a continuous connection is established; hardly resource hogging. Even on connection and the initial sync, my CPU barely broke a sweat for the few seconds that connection took.

Moreover, AS will only sync if there are changes to the information tagged for synchronisation and not continuously.

If the pc or laptop is that low on memory, Activesync is likely to be the least of your worries.
