Having been disgusted to find out that my Dell 1year warranty applies to hardware only and there seems to be no way of having a meaningful discussion with Dell on this matter without re-mortgaging my house, I have "ditched" the Dell download which like others I've been unable to get to fix my "no notification" issue.
As others have found previously the only option that appears to work is to use MemMaid to remove the "blank" entries found in the notification queue. I also needed a soft reset.
To sum up regarding my original posting, time doesn't seemed to have changed the situation as discovered by the X51v "pioneers", Dell would appear not to understand the problem - which is perhaps inevitable given their lack of meaningful PDA software support !
