I do not understand why people here are wasting countless hours looking for a WM6 upgrade for the Axim. It will not happen.
Dell has stated that it will not longer make Axims. There is no motive for them to make an upgrade! It costs a lot of money, and they only sell it for as much as the license costs. The only reason companies make upgrades is to keep people happy so the next device they purchase is from the same company.
Dell already has your money, and will not be releasing another Axim, so they do not need to keep you happy, because the next device you buy will not be from them either way.
Some people have found a "Universal ROM", let me tell you this will not work! The Universal ROM is for the HTC Universal (a pocket pc phone). Google HTC Universal and you can see what device it is. If you somehow manage to get the ROM to start flashing into your Axim, it WILL BE BRICKED! I do not know if it can be flashed back to an Axim ROM.

If you want WM6 NOW, sell your Axim and buy either an HTC Wizard or HTC Hermes. Those have leaked beta WM6 ROMs that you can use. You could also wait some months and get a device that comes with WM6. Whatever you do, you will not get WM6 working on your axim. I have tried WM6 on my HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125), and it basically is just WM5 with AKU 3.3, a nicer skin, .NET CF 2.0 preloaded and some phone dialer enhancements! AKU 3.3 for WM5 was improvements for converged devices like the internet sharing program, direct push, etc.

So to summarize, each device must have the OS custom made to work on it. A ROM from one device will NOT work on another. The only reason manufactures release OS upgrades is to keep the consumer happy so their next purchase will be from that company, but Dell will not be making another Axim and already has your money, so there is no benefit, they would actually LOOSE money making an upgrade.
WM6 classic is no different then WM5 with .NET CF 2.0 and Windows Live loaded on. It just has a nicer skin.

Although I am no longer a frequent visitor of Aximsite (I no longer own an Axim), I found this REALLY annoying. Please, use this forum to discuss the OS or the OS on other devices, but do not whine and moan about not being able to get it for the Axim, as it will not happen.
