This isn't a perfect solution, because you'll probably lose some formatting, the table of contents, etc... but you could try converting the pdf into a file readable by another program. This probably won't work if it's DRMed up though.

I converted a free pdf book into a Mobipocket ebook the other day using Mobipocket's free ebook creator. You can also use Gmail to convert pdf files. All you have to do is send yourself an email with the pdf as an attachment, and when you receive your mail, click "view as html file" instead of download.

But if your file is 12MB, I think it may be too large to email. So all of my advice might be useless.
