As long as there is some money in it, Microsoft won't give up the PDA market altogether. Keep in mind that Hp has no plans of abandoning stand alone PDAs and will most likely profit a lot from Dell quiting the market. And even if for some strange reasons stand alone PDAs disappear from the face of this planet, there will be increasing demand for higher processor speed and better screen PDA/Phones. And this is what is needed for good GPS experience.

They haven't retreated? Then name a more recent stand-alone PDA from HP since the hx4700 or hx2000 series that showed up when the x51 did. Bet you can't - ALL of their PDA releases since have been phones of one kind or another. Even that new one that looks like a candy-bar is a phone. All of the newer devices I've seen getting the good press have had some sort of phone function.
HP left long before Dell may have - Acer and HTC don't seem to have any non-connected WM6 devices on their roadmaps, at least not as a flagship product. As far as faster phones go, the Flame has a 400MHz processor... And Toshiba has a WVGA phone in the pipe.
