I got my reminders back by:
1 - using the Dell update to eliminate dups
2 - changing to regular Calendar in Today screen Items
3 - Taking all birthday events out of Outlook on the desktop (just changed the Recurrence scheduling so they are a one day event in 2007 only).
4 - syncing
5 - changing back to Calendar + in Today screen Items.
One, or a combination of the above, worked.

Yeah I have done the same and have had reminders working for over a month now.
I guess I will just have to remember my wifes birthday by myself.
