I've had the same problem, but I think mine started after the trial period for microsoft office was finished. I used my office programs from disk & still could not get activesync up & running. Tried everything, from removing it & reinstalling, doing a soft reset, disabling virus & firewalls, trying 4.2 instead of 4.5.
Finally reinstalled Outlook, did a hard reset (backup first), all the time keeping my 51V in the cradle & it worked!
