I had the same problem and was directed to this thred
here for the 'Failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial error" from xda-developers.com.
They say temporarily deleting Bluetooth COM ports made the option work. Granted, it wasn't on an X51v but it was under Windows Mobile 5.
