Also, Paul, the on/off button has two functions: on and off, plus bright/dim on the screen. If you press it quickly, it's on/off. But if you hold it down, it goes from whatever brightness to fully dim, or from fully dim to whatever was the previous brightness level. Could that be what you are seeing?
