Sometimes screen protectors slip under the frame of the display and put pressure on the touch screen. The system sees that pressure as a tap,and it waits for the tap to go away. It doesn't, of course, so you can't do anything else. That's why whenever the screen goes inoperative the first question is, "Are you using a screen protector?"

Call Dell, ask for a replacement. The screen should not need squeezing to work. Something is going/has gone wrong with it.
