Well, I haven't tried polishing out scratches in my case, and I've never tried this with aluminum, but...
What about a bit of toothpaste on a soft cloth? It works for silver and glassware -- might work for aluminum? Might scratch it more, I'm not sure how soft aluminum is, but worth a try.
