My e-mail on my 4155 has 2 accounts listed - Activesync & Earthlink.
I switched to the Activesync account by clicking accounts->activesync.
I then wrote a letter and made sure it was in the outbox on the activesync account.
I checked my earthlink mail from my PC deleted all the junk except for 1(as a test to see if my earthlink account will check for new messages).
I connected via wifi & activesync'ed my 4155. The message in the activesync account went out & my earthlink mail did not check for new messages. The 1 piece of junkmail left as a test did not DL to my 4155.
So if you write a message under the activesync account you should be able to send it out without checking for mail on another account.

This all depends on where you are storing your email on your PC. Let's say that you do check your Earthlink email and it goes to your inbox on your desktop. Unless you either delete that email or move it to another folder other than inbox it will sync to the PPC depending on your inbox sync configuration in Activesync. There is no way to tell Activesync to not look at the inbox in Outlook on the desktop when syncing email.
So in theory what you did will work if you make sure that there is nothing in the inbox in Outlook on the desktop and/or any email in inbox falls outside of the criteria you set in the inbox sync configuration settings.
