I am not sure what you mean by a hard reset. It was a couple of years ago when I did the last upgrade and I don't remember whether a hard reset was part of the process and since I have not tried the new 2003 upgrade i am not aware if one is required here. Besides I do not follow the logic of not loosing data WITH a reset! i will take your word for it.
I do remember that when I tried to copy info I got a message to the effect that the data was not created with the iPaq I was trying to copy to. That is the scenario that i do not want to get into, but, again, I wiil take your word for it.
i am sorry if I am repeating a thread. I did a search and found only people havi ng problems with the upgrade and could find no messages dealing with restoration. I guess i was using the wrong key words.
Thanks again,

A hard reset is when you have to "wipe the entire" contents of memory back to factory state. Many OS upgrades (not minor patches) require a full reset the device. This is in contrast to what is called a "soft reset" which is akin to rebooting your PC - you clear out program memory but storage memory remains intact.
Remember, you after upgrading your device where it performs a hard reset, you should delete the existing partnership on your PC before connecting the PPC through AS. You can do this by going to File Menu in ActiveSync and "Delete Partnership". After doing this, when you connect your PPC to the cradle (or cable) you will re-start the process and you will be asked whether you want to merge, or replace your contact and calendar data.
BTW, HTH means "hope this helps".
HTH!
