Consumer IR means that it has the same power output as the remote controls they make for TV's, DVD Players, etc. The IR on the 6315, 4100 series, and 1900 series are not strong enough to use at distance. In order to use those iPAQ's as remote controls, you would have to sit about 2 feet away to get it to work.
