so, it appears the problem is with gmail. i guess they didn't assume people would be checking gmail with ppc's so they made it so that when it is checked by pop, it deletes the message from the server. from what i understand, MSMail on a ppc will delete mail from the inbox when it has been removed from the server, right?

You can set gmail to leave retrieved messages on the server. Go to your Settings/
Forwarding and POP page in Gmail.
