Learn to use what comes on the machine efficiently. Don't go load every piece of software that you can find on it immediately. Learn to find your way around from one application to another as there are many ways to do things on the Axim. Practice the Letter Recognizer and Transcriber. It takes a little time to become proficient but worth the time and effort.

Yes, I put on a screen protector the moment I peeled off the plastic that was on the screen when it was shipped. Mine are WriteRights that I had left over from a Jornada and had to cut them to the right size.

Yes, do a backup before loading unfamiliar software.

Don't let the battery run all the way down.

Register the Reader while connected to the internet.

Check all the options on various screens and experiment with different settings.
