Thanks for the idea, Iceman, but when it didn't work I really wondered what I was doing wrong. Then I realized I'd never "pinged" the desktop - just the router. Bingo - no response. A little perusing on a dell site thread and I realized my firewall was probably the problem. Dropped the firewall - score!

So, for anyone that cares, with my all Netgear setup, all settings on Axim to "work", no specified IP addresses (everything automatic), no problems web browsing or using activesync, and now have listed Axim's IP as a "trusted" IP, so firewall is not a problem anymore. Shouldn't this be easier??
