The after market charge/sync cables don't do a very good job of charging the Axim, either. The standards only require a typical USB port to provide 100mA of power while the wall charger provides 2410mA. If the power is somewhat low on the Axim battery (maybe even as high as 70%) and the Axim is turned on, you may see the battery actually drain when connected with the charge/sync.

The general opinion is that Dell didn't provide a charge function on the cable because it would just cause them to receive a lot of service calls when it didn't work.
