Update: I tried it a few more times, and I was able to get the Install Update process to start by Syncing the Ax right before I press the "install update" button on screen. By actively syncing, it "showed" the upgrade software that the Ax was in fact connected to the PC, and I did not get the caution error in my prior post. It backed up the ROM, but it was too late at night to go ahead and do the upgrade, so all I have done is the ROM backup. I plan on doing the upgrade this evening.

I have read many posts on the upgrade with various problems, and as I have quite a bit of contacts, tasks, etc, I am a bit concerned that if I do not back up correctly that I lose my info.

Questions:

1) The ROM backup during the install process is just so that if things go haywire, I can reinstall PPC 2002 onto my Ax, correct?

2) The install instructions (I am at work now and my PPC2003 upgrade disc is @ home, so I am quoting by memory) says something to the effect that the data on my Ax will not be able to be re-installed via backup, since the ActiveSync standard backup is not compatible after I install PPC2003. So, how does my info get back onto my Ax after the upgrade? Does it put the info back in just by syncing the data from Outlook 2002 and puts it onto the blank Ax after PPC 2003 upgrade?

3) Is it recomended that I backup my data as well onto my SD disk (256mb, so plenty of room), just in case the recommended backup to my PC does not take? Can my info be restored to the main memory from the SD disk, after I do the upgrade to 2003?

4) If I do a Full Backup on ActiveSync 3.7, and all the info on my PC (Outlook 2002) matches what is on my Axim, is that all I need to do to insure I have all the info backed up? The instructions say to confirm the data is backed up,
