I've made several e-books from MSword, and have come up with a couple of rules that make opening them quicker.

1. Always use a custom cover, sized correctly for your handheld screen. It seems the default cover MS wants you to use is too large, and your PDA has to take some time to resize it.

2. At the end of every chapter, place a page-break. I think MSreader repaginates your ebook every time you open it, but it only seems to start from the last page break. If I leave off reading at the first page of a chapter, my ebooks open almost instantaneously when I reopen them. If I read 10~20 pages into a chapter, there is a short delay, but not nearly as long as if I've read almost to the end of a book without any page-breaks. In that case I often wait a couple minutes before it finishes opening.
