Afford it or need it?

Like my kids say..Duh...;)

I'm looking for advice, not just stating the obvious :). Anybody have a 256 SD X 1 or X 2 working reasonably well with a limited number of Mapopolis maps? Is the only drawback of 256 X 2 vs 512 X 1 the manipulation of the cards?
