I think it's also a function of the OS too often.
As an example, soft reset your PC and take a look at in use program memory. Open and close Contacts and then take another look. You should find that there is less memory now than there was before.
In theory if you open and close Contacts often enough you could probably crash your Axim.
There are some instances where this happens by design, but sometimes it's just lousy programming or OS architecture. (Not saying I could do better).
