File sizes...

I followed the conversion instructions almost to the letter at Pocketmatrix and successfully managed to rip and convert a movie into an MPG file. Problem is, it's like 950MB in size. I'd have to completely empty my Microdrive to try and load it. It looks and sounds great on my PC, but I can't even try to play it on my Axim.

So my question is, what are the differences in file sizes? Is DIVX more compact than MPG? If so, by how much? Is WMV or RealMedia viable at all? How much space will I actually save by having a mono film versus stereo?

My goal is watching full-length movies on my Axim. Yet at this point it seems entirely out of reach. After taking almost an entire weekend to fumble through the ripping, converting and encoding process, I can't even see the file work on my Axim. I've tried watching trailers that I got from websites which are supposed to be formatted for Pocket PC, yet they seem too choppy in MPG format using PocketTV.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
