Just had an idea
I have a bluetooth GPS that uses the SPP (Serial Port Profile). Navman 4400
I have a Dell Axim X3i PDA, which only has one SDIO slot, currently the slot is being used for the socket SDIO Bluetooth card. This is a problem, because I loose my memory SD card, so I can't put a lot of maps on my PDA, since the PDA only has 64 ram.
So I came up with this idea, I need your assistance to tell me if this will work or not.
What I am trying to do is plug my gps through the bottom of the PDA to free up the SD slot, for a memory card.
I can buy a serial cable for my dell PDA that is a standard RS-232 serial port, same as what is on a typical home computer. When you plug this cable into the PDA, this serial port becomes Com1.
So what I want to do is I want to take the signal from my Bluetooth GPS and connect to the PDA through the serial cable dongle. The way I thought I could do this is, by purchasing the Socket Cordless Serial Adapter. This adapter would then plug into the serial cable dongle that is coming out of the PDA. I would set the Cordless Serial Adapter to automatically pair with my bluetooth gps by using the included configuration software that comes with it. I would set the Socket Cordless Serial adapter to be the initiator so that when it gets power it will immediately try to connect to my gps, thus automatically pairing by themselves. So what I have created is a bluetooth gps that sends its signal wirelessly to any serial port, Will this work???? I am not familiar how the Cordless serial adapter works...
Since both the socket cordless serial adapter and the bluetooth GPS uses SPP (serial port profile) wouldn't this link technically work?
I need your help! Since I am new to all this
Any help or comment you have is MUCHLY appreicated!!
THANKS
Bennett
