Dropping MIPS and SH3 made sense. Then, you DID have a problem with every app having to be compiled and tested on three different platforms. That costs money and takes time. Picking one and sticking to it made sense. Switching that one regularly doesn't.
The ARM XScale is the 'official' platform. It's not going away soon.

Yeah it works ok, the upgarde. It is faster. Though, I am noticing that my X5 often get stuck especially when it is in the cradle.
It didn't make sense to drop the cascade menu's which the old PDA's and handhelds had.
