I think a lot of those instructions for discharging batteries are leftover from the Ni-CAD days. Everything I've read on Li-ion tells the exact opposite except, some indicate an occasional deeper discharge can help reset the circuitry on the battery which gets out of calibration. Even this is a different problem from the Ni-CAD memory problem since it is reversable with the discharge.
