Size matters (for video)

I have recently gotten into ripping DVD's to play on my axim. Thanks to Big D's excellent tutorials, it was pretty smooth. My questions are:

1) I'm experimenting with the bitrate on TMPGenc to manipulate the size of the movie. I've went as low as 200 kbits/sec and that is probably as low as I want to go. An hour and 45 min video came out to be 210 MB. This barely fit onto my 256 MB SD card. (241 available) I've seen posts where people are getting longer movies to around the same file size. So, to my question....What do I need to do to get the movie file size down? I'm using the template suggested in Bigd's tutorial. I've also used a template I found on PocketTv's web site. But these two templates are still making the file size to big for my SD card.

2) Is compact flash the best/fastest memory to use for video playback on the AX?

ps. I just found a Kingston 512 CF card for 89.99 on Ebay. Couldn't let it pass me by....it's on it's way (Hope the answer to #2 is that CF is better for video.)

Thanks!!
