If you wanna do all of this encoding stuff extremely easily (my dog could figure it out), and have about $35 to waste, buy Dr. DivX from the DivX site. It's helped me... a lot.
and about Windows Media codec, I wouldn't recommend ANYONE use it... if properly used it can compress your 4GB DVD into a 60MB Axim-compatible file, but the quality with which this is done is, at best, crap...
