You change it by going to Start, Settings, System tab, About, Device ID tab. I think you need to do soft reset after changing the name. You may need to delete and recreate your partnership in Activesync after changing the name.

I would try changing the setting for "My network card connects to:" to Work. You get there by tapping the connection icon (the two arrows) and tap settings. Open Wireless Ethernet, Network Adapters tab and it is at the top of the screen. That will most likely fix the problem. If you do not know how to change the name of your Axim, it is probably set to the default name, which works fine with wireless sync.
