I've reached the conclusion that with WMV versus DiVX you pretty much get what you pay for... in size, that is...
Just that WMV will go lower than DiVX, so while it is true that The Matrix encoded down to 60MB in WMV would look better than the same thing in DiVX (hate to say this, but Microcrud wins here), the normal quality files should be ~same size.
The only way I see of normal quality videos coming down in size is if someone implements OGG audio in a PPC-compatible video format.
This would cut the video down to 75% it's original size as the audio, which takes up ~50% of the file, could be encoded with half the bitrate without any quality loss, thus taking off half the audio file and leaving us with about 60-65MB less clutter per 256MB file.
