Although VNC is great, I found I have superior performace using the Terminal Services Client. You simply right click on My Computer, go to the Remote tab, and allow Remote Access. I heard you may need XP Pro for this, but it is definitely faster than VNC. The downside is that you can't use the same user simultaneously (you must log in with with an account for remote access and if you choose an user that is currently open on the PC it will log that person out). In the situation where you need to show someone what to do remotely, VNC would be the better choice, but if your only access the PC yourself then Terminal Services is the way to go.
