I had a Toshiba e400 for about a week. It is certainly thin and light. However, the length and width are considerable. I much prefer the Ipaq 1940 form factor. I have an X3 coming in a few days... I'll let you know how the 3 compare. If the X3 is too big, I'm going with the 1940.
One other thing... the stylus on the e400 is HORRIBLE. It is telescopic, and VERY tiny. Uncomfortable to use.
The only cool things about the e400 are the voice command thing (which works 75% of the time), the text reader (very cool), and the 32 megs storage space. Oh yeah, the Toshiba Home application is very useful as well.
As for the case being metal, the case didn't really look like it was metal, but it would get cold to the touch sometimes as though it were in fact metal. The black plastic part above the display looks cheap. I've seen 3 of them, and the edge on the plastic looks rough and uneven, like it's been abused or poorly manufactured.
It's not bad, but the price is too high (at least here in Canada) for what you get.
