Also on my laptop when I try CTRL+ALT+DEL activesync is not showing up in the running programs list eventhough it is showing activity in my system tray. Any suggestions?

Check your firewall. Those symptoms are consistent with a firewall blocking the TCP/IP from the Ax to the PC. Activesync uses TCP/IP for communications, and if the firewall is set too tight it will prevent those connections because it thinks the Axim is trying to get out to the Internet.
