As Gigi says quality is subjective. It also depends on the quality of your 'phones. I find that 96 kbps gives excellent quality on WMA files, using cheap but good 'phones ( Panasonic RP-HT51 costing £10 here in the UK). Using 96 kbps I can get well over 5 hours of music on a 256 MB CF Card.

There is obviously a trade off between quality and playing time. Try experimenting to find the lowest bit rate that gives the quality that is acceptable you or your girl friend.
