Well I have finally been able to get this to work using Resco File Explorer and gsplayer. You create the map in Resco - eg. \\mypc\files. Then in gsplayer, clear out the play list, click on File and then Add File.... Then in the Name field enter the shared name \\mypc\files. Viola - your directories on the desktop PC appear. Then just navigate down into the folder you wish to play. Use the little select all icon to highlight all the files and then click on OK and the entire directory on the desktop PC will load into gsplayer to play. I know it's a little convoluted but it works plus once, you've navigated on the desktop the first time, if you want to change directories you are already there (until you bring the WiFi connection down).
