Is it a D-Pad moved over to the keyboard? Are the "buttons" mappable
seperately from the D-Pad?
If it
is a D-Pad, this should work with it for "true" mouse control while you're typing.

This from the Keyboard's User Guide:
"Using the Keyboard Mouse
With the IR keyboard’s 8-way navigation button, you can control
the cursor’s movement and tap items on your PDA’s screen—all
“stylus-free.”
Press the arrows on the navigation button to move the cursor
across the PDA’s screen. To “tap” an on-screen option, press the
check mark key on the IR keyboard. To “tap and hold” an
on-screen option, press and hold the check mark key on the IR
keyboard."
So, it sounds like it might come with it's own "mouse" that it puts on the Screen? Doesn't seem likely, since it's a "Universal" Keyboard that includes Palm & Cell Phone connectivity.
