My windows directory is 35megs..

It sounds like you are working your way to a hard reset!
I had similar problems with pocketnotepad and activesync.. my eventual solution was a hard reset.

I dont know if the download section has it but get remover for the ppc.. it helps clear out the extra files that werent uninstalled. aND the temp files.
