I'm a BIG fan of BatteryPack's Program Launcher.

And then, on top of that, you can steal a great function that was used on the iPaq - the GigaTask button (http://www.gigatask.com) is brilliant, and is perfect for use in replacing that USELESS "Home" button.

Try it on for size, no need to navigate away from the current program you're in - just press a button and navigate a cool launcher menu! :)
