I listened to my PDA last night at home, while I was working on a project for work. I was listening to my mp3 player, but remembered this thread, and switched over to my PDA and fired up PocketMusic. I set the eq to "headphones" and cranked the volume up.

I usually rip my mp3's at 160, but I have several at 192 as well. With the TV on in the living room, with me at the dining room table (about 8 feet away) and these earbuds on, I couldn't hear anything from the TV (except between songs) and I found that the volume at about 85% of volume max was sufficient for me to work, listen to music adequately, and still not hear any ambient noise.

I do tend to prefer my music fairly loud, but I think that anywhere between 6-8 (out of 10) on a volume scale would be good for all but the noisest of environments. I gave it a good listen.....I couldn't tell any real difference between mp3's played on my Nomad versus the Axim. The only real noticiable difference was the lack of ability to really escalate the Axim's volume level to as high as I could on the Nomad.

Hope this helps you in your decision...
