I tried looking for the Active Sync backup at the location you suggested....

C:\Documents and Settings\Name?\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\Your_Name\Backu
p.stg

I am also using Win XP and AS 3.7.1 and I don't even have an Application data folder... Did find an ActiveSync folder but there is no "Profile" folder in it. Also searched for a "backup.stg" file but I don't have one. Evidently I've never made a "backup" using Active Sync...
