As I'm not sure if you're new to PPCs or not....
Have you been actually closing the programs, or just hitting the "X" in the upper-right corner?
The "X" does not close the program, but simply minimizes it. Dell includes the "Switcher Bar" program (in Settings) that you can use to actually close programs that are still running. This can also be done via many other software like Icbar, Wisbar, etc.
