I had to post... I had a hard reset for no reason a few months ago, and unfortunately had no backup other than Outlook data. (me dumb then).
The other day, I turned on my X5 in the morning to see what my appointments were like, and got that wonderful Dell startup screen. In the back of my mind I'm thinking "no no no" and sure enough... "Tap to set up..."
I started reloading software and during the process I unplugged the charger for a moment and the X5 shuts off with a quick glimpse of the power warning. It makes no sense as the X5 has been charging for a couple hours. Now I'm afraid the battery is fried. I start playing with the charging cable, replace the backup battery (even though it says 100%), and keep getting the same problem. Hmmm... I press one of the application buttons and all of the sudden the X5 turns off?!?!?! I duplicate this a number of times. Now I am really confused. I pick up the device, no power connected, and feel the battery shift slightly on the back, which it does from time to time, but this time the screen goes blank! Problem found!
Turns out that after 15 months of use, there was some build-up on the battery contacts and although it was not visible, I cleaned them thoroughly and I can no longer duplicate the problem.
Also, now I keep current backups!
