well the media player will play mp3's just fine..does for me anyway.

the "how" is that I just use the explore device option from activsync and copy the mp3's to where I want them, usually on my SD card. If I am looking at a long trip them I just copy them to my 512meg CF card. Big difference between audio books and music as well, audio books have a lot of "silence" that compresses very nicely, a 512 card could hold 20hrs easy.


The how much space it takes really depends on the quality you are looking for, I have seen mp3's recording rates vary from 48kbits to 192kbits.
With my ears and headphones 64kbits is more than enough...some folks can tell the difference tho :-)
