I'm not an expert at this, and actually just got into ripping dvd's to ppc when I got my Axim...
Anyway, I believe you need three program:
1. DVD ripper - Rip the DVD
2. DVD2AVI - Convert VOB files (I think)
3. TmpGenc - Make them into MPEG's
I tried it works pretty good, and its all free. The only thing you will need is time to have a finish product. It's very long, and very tedious process.
I'm having seconds thoughts on just purchasing PQDVD, I tried the trial version, and it's very good. One click and you're done.
Which lead me to ask wielmiester: How is PQDVD compared to the other program (I can't remember the name right now), but it's about $10 cheaper, and it encodes it to media files instead of MPEG's...
I tried both, and as far as video is concern they both seems to be the same. I think I like PQDVD for it's on the fly cropping.
